Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) has moved online and Baselworld 2020 is canceled, but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. Stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases here.
Ever gone scuba diving at night? It’s the best time to dive. All the weird, electric-looking stuff comes out to hunt: bright orange octopus, green moray eels, beautiful polka-dotted eagle rays, that guy Ted who unwittingly became your dive buddy because the friend you went on vacation with specifically to dive contracted a head cold on his Avianca flight and is currently topside, breathing out of one nostril.
Of course, if you’re one of the small subset of people who still goes diving with an actual dive watch in addition to — or without — a dive computer, then it’s important that that watch be visible underwater in low light. If your watch is equipped with tritium tubes, which glow perpetually, then you’re fine, but a Super-LumiNova watch needs to be “charged” in ambient light before it will glow, and will then generally only glow for a short period of time. So what’s the solution? Use more Super-LumiNova. A lot more. Duh.
Bell & Ross’s BR 03-92 Diver Full Lum does just that. In fact, it’s metal dial is fully coated with a SLN-based paint, while its applied indices and the bezel indices are filled with green SLN. Evidently this green lume used in the indices is visible for longer in the dark, and the ultra-bright dial itself should be no problem to read while chasing sea creatures. During the day time, the dial appears “almond green,” making for a cool look that’s sure to turn heads.
Otherwise, the BR 03-92 Diver Full Lum is the 03-92 we all know and love: 42mm matte black ceramic case; automatic BR-CAL.302 movement with date function; unidirectional rotating dive bezel with graduated minutes scale; sapphire crystal with AR coating and 300m of water resistance. It’s available with two straps — a woven black rubber and a black synthetic fabric — as a limited edition of 999 pieces at a price of $4,500.
